This is a comprehensive look at the current situation among American Indians, with just enough history and background on policy development to provide context for the reader.
As a Canadian, I found it very interesting to see how different policy choices sometimes led to the very same issues that remain to be resolved. I was very encouraged by the benefits that have been realized through self-government (or self-determination).
This book is strengthened by several essays by native people related to the theme of particular chapters.
Very well done; comprehensive and accessible for general readers. (
