Bug tracking

This is a bug tracking page

We're trying to keep most bug talk on the Talk system, mostly in the Bug Collectors group. Talk is a better place to investigate problems, which usually requires dialogue.

These pages are for listing bugs and their associated discussion on Talk.

Contents

[edit] Bug tracking points

  • Please read the green box on the right before editing.
  • For now, we are only tracking things that are 100% guaranteed broken in an observable and repeatable way. Please do not add transient page load problems, reports of mysterious MySQL code, etc. that usually are fixed or go away in a few minutes or hours. And please don't add your personal wishes for things to work differently, you may hold them strongly but they aren't bugs.
  • Bug categories might be worked out and implemented at a later date.
  • Please post links to Talk discussions if you can
  • Once a bug is fixed or resolved, it can be moved to the fixed or resolved page.

[edit] Duplicates always shows your own duplicates

When looking at the profile of another user and checking the duplicates on the statistics page, you only get your own duplicates, not those of the user X you are viewing.

[edit] Adding tags with Power Edit makes all previous tags disappear

A problem that resurfaces unpredictably. Adding tags to an entry with the Power Edit function makes all the previous tags disappear (making one assume they have been 'deleted') for extended periods. First reported here ([1]) and described in detail here from #19 ([2]) -- Existanai 23:56, 19 September 2007 (EDT)

[edit] Groups book search

Groups book search does not work—meaning you can't search the joint library of a group. (Talk).

[edit] European Date preference

On the book edit page there are three date entry fields, that can be entered in several formats. LibraryThing keeps a cookie to record the US/European preference but both options still show up and the default appears to be the US format. (Talk)

[edit] Add books long-URL problem

Adding books from libraries sometimes doesn't work because the resulting URL is too long for some browsers. (Talk)

-- Timspalding 12:34, 10 September 2007 (EDT)

[edit] Tag combining

The tag combination page only allows you to combine the tag with the first suggested tag on the list. Talk)

--Jjwilson61 14:05, 10 September 2007 (EDT)

[edit] Separating tags with quotes

Separating the tag "science fiction" from science fiction doesn't work. (Talk)

--Jjwilson61 14:03, 10 September 2007 (EDT)

[edit] Tabs missing after change cover

Confirmed as a low priority bug by ConceptDawg More correctly, it is confirmed as a problem that will be corrected when the new work page debuts. It will have new cover handling ConceptDawg

Windows XP, Firefox 2.0.0.6 I am in "Your library", and then click to change cover. After selecting new cover, I am returned to a library view, except that the tabs (Your library, Add books, ...) are missing, so I can't click back to Add books. The new URL is . . ./catalog_bottom.php?view=dbell154 and probably should be something like . . ./catalog/dbell154 (Talk and Talk 2 & )

[edit] Safari Ajax-in-JavaScript/Prototype Bug

Safari 1.3.2 crashes when

  • Clicking to add/edit/verify wikipedia (and probably delete) author links
  • Clicking to view individual tags in the tagmirror

infiniteletters

Patient: Doctor, it hurts when I do this. Doctor: Don't do that.

Seriously though, it's a Safari bug (and a documented one at that) and not our bug. While we will institute a workaround we would appreciate you being a bother to Apple in addition. Maybe then it will be fixed. Nah. ConceptDawg

[edit] Adding books from Helsinki Metropolitan Library results in odd characters

(Talk)

(Talk)

--15:30, 14 September 2007 (EDT)

This character problem is universal. Characters with diaereses and other diacritics are not converted correctly when a record (from any library source) is added into the LT database.

--18:53, 14 September 2007 (EDT)

[edit] Various problems when changing view options when displaying your catalog using cover view

(Talk)

--18:56, 14 September 2007 (EDT)

[edit] Profile shows a different user based on capitalization of the name

We should be checking for/converting username case on the page so that 'conceptDawg' is the same as 'conceptdawg' or 'ConceptDawg' (Talk)

--ConceptDawg 22:25, 14 September 2007 (EDT)

[edit] Using back arrow to go back to catalog view loses place

It always goes back to the first page. (Talk)

--02:04, 15 September 2007 (EDT)

[edit] Dates on tag combining log are wrong when the date is the first of the month

Dates from previous month get the current month instead. I think it is also an error in other logs. (Talk)

--18:58, 15 September 2007 (EDT)

[edit] Adding new books from Bol-Bruna

If this results in more books than fit on a single page, pressing next doesn't give me further results from Bol-Bruna, but results from DutchBib. (Talk)

--23:16, 15 September 2007 (EDT)

[edit] LC search returns zero results when apostrophe is in Title

I've verified that Ender's War is found in Amazon.com but not Library of Congress. (Talk)

--17:26, 17 September 2007 (EDT)

[edit] Searching using apostrophe in group threads

Result page has Advanced Search box pre-filled with a backslash before the apostrophe. For example, searching for l'engle ends up with l\'engle in the search box. The heading for the search results also says "Talk search: l\\\'engle".

This report is based on this thread but I couldn't reproduce exactly what they said: Talk

but clicking on them goes to a book with a valid title. See Atom. (Talk).

[edit] View larger link on profile page is wrong when the name has a period

(Talk).

[edit] Using "{"s in tags results in SQL errors

It's probably pretty difficult to find and escape all the places where this causes problems. Wouldn't it be better to just not allow any characters in tags that might cause problems with SQL or whatever. At least until you have time to handle it. (Talk)

--18:16, 18 September 2007 (EDT)

[edit] Searching your library by --tag misses books that have no tags
