About me50-something, politically engaged (early) retiree living in the lake country of the upper midwest.
also…a singer. if I could sing the world to wellness, i would. and a passionate cook who wishes she could lay a table for the world’s neediest. and a former professor. and ever a reader / researcher / thinker / processor / synthesizer / writer / speaker…who still hasn’t figured out how to use these strengths to change the world. I am a happy married gal, an exuberant mother of two twenty-something boys, a pet lover, and the world’s worst (best?) procrastinator
About my libraryFor as much as I love them (and for all of the 'professing' of literature I've done), I own relatively few books. I believe they belong in circulation, not gathering dust on shelves. That said, I am an avid cook, so I do have quite a recipe book and food writing collection. I also love all things French so I tend to keep French-related books. I live and breathe gardening (which, yes, is still possible at -30 degrees with 6 feet of snow cover), so gardening books come and go. I read fewer and fewer novels, even though I almost always enjoy them, and gravitate more and more toward essay, memoir, travel, history, and politics. Currently I am reading everything I can get my hands on about the politics of food, buying/eating locally, farm subsidies, organic growing, etc. A snapshot of my bedside table would probably include one each of a book about gardening or food issues, something French in interest, poetry, history, and the contemporary political scene (probably as it relates to the environment), and a novel that gets picked up and put back down on a nightly basis.
