About meI've been a passionate bookworm since about 3 years old (or so my parents tell me!). As a teacher, most of my reading is now done in the holidays, so I don't get through as much as I would like or used to. Still buy more books than I read!

About my libraryBooks catalogued include those in my library and those I've read since 2003 (the catalogue is still being brought up to date).
I tend only to give ratings to books for reading, so usually don't include reference or text books. If they are unrated, they come under that category, or are yet to be read, or were read before I started rating them (2003) and are likely to be reread at some stage.
5-an all-time great, last half star often added later; 4.5-excellent, list from which all-time greats chosen, 4-really enjoyable read, thoroughly recommended; 3-solid read, worth a try; 2-OK, something missing, but usually worth finishing; 1-not for me, usually unfinished; 0.5-ugh!
NIL = Not In Library; used for books that I have rated but then either returned to owner/library or have sold/given away.

Hi Will

Thanks for challenging me with the Siege of Krishnapur. I remember either the Book Club or A Good Read was talking about it on Radio 4, and it sounded really interesting and full of humour. Of course, I had to have it, and then I had to have Troubles, then The Singapore Grip, not that I've read any of them yet! Anyway, I suppose what I'm trying to say is that I'm really looking forward to reading it.

My challenge to you is Sophie's World by Jostein Gaarder. I read it about 8 years ago and found it was one of those books that stayed with me and I didn't realise how much I enjoyed it until I'd finished it. Hope you enjoy it too.

Hi Will,

Thankyou so much for my challenge. I really enjoy non-fiction and I love getting my teeth into huge books so this is the perfect choice. I couldn't resist buying this when it came out as I find Hitler a fascinating character. I'm just glad you didn't challenge me to read Mein Kampf (although I am determined to try and read it one day).

Hi Will,

For the 2010 reading challenge I would like you to read 'Dry Store Room No1' by Richard Fortey. I have it on my tbr pile so it will be interesting to hear your views. Hope that's ok.

OK Will my challenge for you is The WEll-Beloved. I read it a couple of years ago with my reading group because it had local relevance to us. It will be interesting to see what someone who isn't from the area will think of it.

Thanks
Cheryl
Sorry Will, Crow Country should have had pl. If you don't mind, I'd like to read CC soon, as I've become a bit corvid-fixated of late, and so will read The Cruellest Miles as my 2010 challenge.

ailie
Brilliant choice, Will. The only trouble is going to be holding off from reading it until 2010 :)
Hi Will,

I'd like to challenge you to read Leviathan by Philip Hoare. I've just bought this and so I'll be interested to hear what you make of it.

Hi Will, We seem to be doing a lot of apologising to each other!!! It's not a problem at all to rechoose - you have an inspiring library with such a variety of books, it really is a pleasure to look through! I've chosen The Invisible Woman: The Story of Nelly Ternan and Charles Dickens. I hope that's OK? It was one of many that caught my eye!
Thanks for my challenge. I have read the 39 Steps and really enjoyed Buchan's style of writing. I notice you even have Chaucer in your library - 5 stars too! Very impressive!
Enjoy! Michelle
Hi Will,
I must apologise because I was doing my librarything a few months ago when my computer brokedown. We have just got a new one and are back in the e-world. I hadn't tagged my books as unread before the breakdown! I have done now and have found that now I'm back online people have chosen books for me that I've read. My fault I know!! I have read Wuthering Heights many years ago when I was 17!! I absolutely loved the book! (One of few I think). I would love to read it again but does that count? I must apologise, I have updated my library and am continually doing so, if you would like to choose me something else that that's fine too. Hope it's not too much of an inconvenience. Many Thanks Michelle
Hi Will,
I challenge you to read Emotionally Weird by Kate Atkinson, I have a couple of hers on my unread pile.
Michelle
Sorry about that Will. And you rated it 5*s as well!

Please can I challenge you to read Emotionally Weird by Kate Atkinson. It is one on my tbr pile that I have been meaning to read for a while (I enjoyed Human Croquet) - so hopefully I will read it with you!

Cheryl
Hi Willoyd,

Sorry I was away when you joined the boards. I have seen your post that you challenge me to read Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson. That's great, I have been meaning to catch on up on a few classics for a while now.

I would like to challenge you to read The Doomsday Book by Connie Willis - I have been on a crusade recently to read more women's sci-fi and this book looms large (I read it on holiday last week - I really enjoyed it and OH did too!), and I would love to hear your views on it.
Ok - Challenge part 2 !! Have now changed the viewing screen to see the rated books and I'd like to challenge you to read 'The End of Mr Y' by Scarlett Thomas. Several of the reading group read it for a weekend away and passed on a copy. It does sound good so I'll be reading it with you, love Shona

Hi Will, for the reading challenge I'd like you to read The Oxford Murders by Guillermo Martinez.
Thanks Will. It'll do me good to read it as I can't quite see what folks see in Austen. I've tried and not liked P&P and found Emma okay, so this'll be a good experience. Thank you.
Hi Will,

For the Reading Challenge 2009 please would you read BLOOD RIVER: A JOURNEY TO AFRICA'S BROKEN HEART by TIM BUTCHER. It was one of my favourite books of 2007 and it really opened my eyes to Africa's sad past. Hope you approve.

Hi Will, for your reading challenge 2009 I would like you to read The Suspicions of Mr Whicher by Kate Summerscales. It's a book which I have on my TBR pile so I shall be interested to know what you think of it. Vanessa
Hi Will, I note that you like non-fiction. It's not something I read a lot of, but I do have some on my TBR pile. So I'm challenging you to read The Lodger: Shakespeare on Silver Street by Charles Nicholl, and I will read it as well, as it's one I have already.

Nicola
Hi Will, I'm going to give you a classic for your 2009 Reading Challenge, in the form of 'Don Quixote' by Miguel de Cervantes. It'll prompt me to read it as well. Sam
Hi Will

Just had an email from the administrator and your problem should be sorted. He apologises for the inconvenience and hopes you succeed this time.

Look forward to seeing you on there.

Sam
Hi Will

I've emailed Dan who is the administrator of the group and hopefully that will rectify the problem. Hopefully we'll see you on there soon!

It'll be good you having a LT account as well as we love having a browse through everyone's book cases. Looking forward to you adding some books on here.

Let me know how you get on.
